FARMERS CARRY MORE THAN EQUIPMENT

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month — and in agriculture, that conversation matters more than most people realize.

For many in agriculture, stress becomes normal. Sleepless nights during planting and harvest. Constant worry about input costs. Equipment breakdowns at the worst possible time. Commodity swings. Drought. Hail. Financial pressure. The feeling that everything depends on one good year.
Rural communities are built on toughness, resilience, and pride. But mental health matters just as much as physical health. Talking to someone, asking for help, or checking in on a neighbor can make a bigger difference than people realize.
Sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is simply say:“I’m not doing okay.”
If you know someone who seems overwhelmed, withdrawn, exhausted, or not acting like themselves, reach out. A phone call, coffee, or conversation in the shop can matter more than you think.
Agriculture feeds the world, but farmers and ranchers need support too.
You are more important than the crop.
More important than the markets.
More important than the equipment.
And you do not have to carry the stress alone.
